Our Dental Professionals:
Dr. Jackie Schafer, DDS
“Even after 27 years of practicing dentistry, I can still say…I love being a dentist!”
Dr. Jacqueline Schafer knew she wanted to be a dentist from the age of 7. She grew up in Pueblo, Colo., and was able to work towards the goal of her dream career with the support of her family. She attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska as an undergraduate student and then was accepted into the dental program at Creighton University School of Dentistry. After graduating, she worked as an associate with an established dentist and then bought a practice in a small town outside of Omaha. However, Nebraska never felt like home. In 1994, she returned to Colorado and bought a practice in Broomfield, Colorado. After several years, she outgrew the original location and moved her practice to a new facility in Lafayette.
Jackie is married to Dave Schafer and they live in Boulder with their two sons, Luke and Jude. They are a family that is rarely idle, enjoying skiing (both cross-country and downhill), hiking and biking together. She and Dave enjoy a side-by-side run on the weekends. She also enjoys knitting, baking, and is an avid reader and long-standing member of a book club.
Professionally, Dr. Schafer has served on several boards for both not-for-profit and professional educational dental organizations. She is committed to her profession and its advancements and continues to gain knowledge through education and study groups. She enjoys many aspects of the dental profession including improving patients’ smiles, treating their TMJ pain and dysfunction, and providing dental care for entire families — from the youngest child, through their grandparents.
She also has a passion for treating patients who are scared of going to the dentist and helping them work through their anxieties. She has co-authored a book providing insight to the treatment of the fearful patient. She is committed to helping the next generation be relaxed and even excited about going to the dentist and eliminating the negative perceptions that the public has toward dental treatment.
“Nothing is more powerful and rewarding than to know that I have affected another person positively and changed the way they feel about themselves. That is what makes my day a success. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than receiving a smile, kind words or a hug after a dental appointment thus letting me know that my staff and I have done something good. This is why I go to the office and what I strive to accomplish every day!”

Seeing lives change is what has kept me in the practice for all these years. I love working with and getting to know people and feeling like I’m making a difference in someone’s life each day. Darby Hyde
Meet our newest Dental Hygienist and Team member, Darb! Originally, from the Hudson Valley, in New York, she became a Local Colorado resident in 1988. She talked her family in to moving to Colorado because of their love of the outdoors, skiing, and what the beautiful Rocky Mountains has to offer.
This is a career that was specially chosen by Darby, because of her enjoyment in meeting new people and more importantly wanting to provide care to her patients. Her journey into dentistry began locally through a friend, who had introduced her to the dental field, which then sparked a lifelong passion. While raising her family she returned to academia, pursuing her studies alongside her children. The dental field provides the opportunity to continually expand her mind and quality of care through continued education and certifications which allows her to provide our patients with the best and most current up to date standards of care in dental hygiene. With over a decade of experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist, she is still growing and still loves seeing patients reach their dental goals.
